"Booked a two-night stay at Lava Flow Hostel before continuing north on the Continental Divide Trail. My progress was recently delayed after I spent six hours following what I was certain were CDT trail markers, only to discover I had been tracking a particularly adventurous mule. The mule has since been promoted to navigator, but confidence in the leadership team remains low. I plan to use my time at the hostel to shower off several pounds of New Mexico dust, do laundry, resupply, reorganize my pack, and conduct a formal after-action review of the mule incident before resuming operations."

"Definitely a place to grab a hot shower and pitch a tent. Location is quiet. Everything in town is a bit spread out. Laundry is broken, but laundromat just down the street. Definitely in better condition than previous reviews. Cats are gone."
"A true hostel. But the instructions on how to wash your sheets and use the amenities were clear. I’d never encountered naked cowboy art but it made my wife smile."
"What a nice surprise to find this great hostel on our way on the great divide mountain bike route. We loved the atmosphere there and the very friendly people, hikers and bikers that stayed there that night :) Thanks for this very nice, queer, open-minded place! Long life to Lava Flow!!"

"So happy to have found this place. Very clean and cozy. Detailed instructions for using shared spaces, etc (common in hostels) were easy to understand and clearly written. Very reasonable price and happy to have had a dedicated room for my wife and me (and access to shared bathroom, showers, and kitchen). Loved the affection from Frankie the cat! Also loved the eco-friendly features. Overall an excellent hostel!"
"My saving grace following some car issues on a cross country road trip. Super cute and clean. Everything a self sufficient traveler needs and more. Hope to come back someday!"

"It‘s simple but got everything you need. Located right off the Historic Route 66. Ross describes the place well and it matched my expectations. You‘re expected to clean up after yourself (wipe down stuff, put used sheets in washing machine, sweep, do dishes, etc.) which is totally reasonable given the price."
